Privacy Policy
This website is managed in compliance with Nagasaki Prefecture’s Ordinance on the Protection of Personal Information. Its purpose is to provide visitors with information about services and news related to the Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture and The Former Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Nagasaki Branch Museum – The Nagasaki Museum of Modern-Era Exchange, Sun Yat-sen & Umeya Shokichi (hereinafter referred to as “the Museums”).
1.Personal Information Protection Policy
The Museums have established the following Personal Information Protection Policy, and strive to promote the safeguarding of personal information by setting up a system to protect personal information, and by ensuring that all employees understand the importance of personal information protection and are commited to its practices.
2.Purpose of Use of Personal Information
Personal information acquired from customers will be used only to contact them or send them materials. It will not be used for any purposes other than those specified by the Museums.
3.Prohibition on Disclosure and Provision of Personal Information to Third Parties
The Museums will ensure that personal information collected from customers is managed appropriately, and will not disclose or provide it to third parties, except in the following circumstances:
- The customer has given explicit consent
- Personal information is shared with an outsourcing provider in order to offer services requested by the customer
- Disclosure is required by law or regulation
4.Security Measures for Personal Information
We take reasonable security measures to prevent the loss, leakage, misuse, tampering or destruction of personal information, as outlined in “2. Purpose of Use of Personal Information.” However, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5.Request by an Individual
Upon receiving a request to disclose, correct, or cease the use of personal information, we will respond promptly after verifying the individual’s identity and completing the necessary procedures, except in cases specified by law.
6.Compliance with Laws and Regulations, and Review
In addition to complying with all applicable Japanese laws and regulations concerning the personal information we hold, the Museums will continuously review and strive to improve our practices.

The Nagasaki Museum of History and Culture and the Former Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Nagasaki Branch Museum – The Nagasaki Museum of Modern-Era Exchange, Sun Yat-sen & Umeya Shokichi (hereinafter referred to as “the Museums”), utilize their official Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube accounts (hereinafter referred to as “official SNS”) to promote the Museums’ attractions and ensure that visitors receive timely and relevant information. Additionally, by leveraging the interactive nature of social media, we aim to provide approachable services and a friendly museum experience.

At the Museums, staff members actively engage in the operation of the official SNS, to promote the Museums and Nagasaki from their own perspective. All posts comply with “Nagasaki Prefecture’s Guidelines for the Use of Social Media” (https://www.pref.nagasaki.jp/shared/uploads/2024/03/1710380814.pdf).
4.Types of Content Posted
The information shared on our official SNS will primarily include the following categories. Please note that the content may be modified or removed without prior notice.
- Information about the Museums’ exhibitions, collections, and publications
- Information about events, lectures, and experiences hosted by the Museums
- Information about the Museums’ shops, restaurants, workshops, and other facilities
- Information about the Museums’ official websites
- Information about Nagasaki’s culture, tourism, etc.
- Other information deemed necessary by the management
5.Usage Guidelines

When interacting with our official SNS, we ask users to refrain from posting content that falls under the categories listed below. Any user posts that are determined to violate these guidelines may be removed without notice, and the user’s access may be restricted.
- Content that is or may be in violation of any laws or regulations
- Content that slanders or disparages specific individuals, organizations, businesses, regions or countries
- Content made for the purpose of political campaigning or religious activities
- Content intended for advertising, publicity, solicitation, sales, or other commercial purposes
- Content that is false or contrary to fact, such as impersonating others, including impersonation of the Museums
- Content that may infringe on copyrights, trademarks, portrait rights, or other intellectual property rights of the Museums or third parties
- Content that compromises privacy by identifying, disclosing, or leaking personal information without consent
- Content that includes obscene language, images, or expressions that go against public morals
- Harmful programs
- Any content that causes harm or disadvantage to the Museums or others, is deemed inappropriate by management, or links to pages that include such content
- Content that violates the terms of service of the respective social media platform (Facebook, Instagram, X, YouTube)
[2] Reply policy
In accordance with “1. Purpose”, we may reply to comments or messages when it helps to promote the attractions of the Museums or Nagasaki, or when an immediate reply is deemed necessary. However, please note that we do not guarantee replies to all comments or inquiries. Detailed inquiries regarding the Museums and their collections should be directed to our official email address.

[3] “Follow” policy
Our official SNS primarily follow accounts closely involved with the Museums’ operations and collections, such as national and local government bodies, public institutions and high-profile organizations. As a general rule, we do not follow individual accounts. However, exceptions may be made for individuals who are collaborators or otherwise involved in projects organized by the Museums.
[4] External engagement policy
Our official SNS will only share, repost, or otherwise engage with content from the following types of accounts:
- National or local government bodies and museum-related institutions
- Collaborators or people involved in exhibitions, events, or other projects that the Museums organize, co-organize, cooperate with, or support
- Organizations or individuals utilizing the Museums’ facilities
- In addition, organizations or individuals that share relevant information about Nagasaki’s history and culture
6.Intellectual Property Rights
The intellectual property rights (trademarks, copyrights, and all other rights) for individual pieces of content (such as text, photos, and illustrations) published on our official SNS, belong to the Museums or the original authors. Except for cases permitted under the Copyright Law, such as “reproduction for private use” or “quotation”, any unauthorized copying or redistribution of content is prohibited.
However, this does not apply to actions such as “sharing” content within the social media platform or synchronizing information with other integrated media interfaces.
7.Handling of Personal Information
Personal information collected through the operation of our official SNS will be handled in accordance with the Museums’ privacy policy.
8.Disclaimer
- While we pay close attention to the information shared on our social media accounts, we do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or usefulness. Additionally, information about objects in our collection or research findings may include content that has multiple interpretations, and we do not guarantee its accuracy, completeness, or usefulness.
- The Museums will not be held liable for any direct or indirect damages or troubles arising from the use of our official SNS, unless caused by intentional or gross negligence on the part of the Museums.
- Users may experience issues accessing our official SNS content depending on their internet connection environment.
- The Museums reserve the rigth to change, review, or discontinue the operation of this policy without prior notice.
9.Other
Any necessary matters not specified in this policy will be determined separately by management.

This social media policy is effective as of July 1, 2021.
